The Truth About Carbon Infrared Heaters
When we build our far infrared (FIR) carbon heaters, we’re trying to do something different. Most heaters just bake the air around you—that’s convection. It’s okay, but it’s not great. We want the heat to go straight into you. Instead of those old-school electric coils, we use carbon-fiber filaments tucked into silicone or ceramic. It creates these waves (between 3 and 100 microns) that actually sink deep into your muscles rather than just hitting your skin.
Let’s talk power and heat
One thing you’ll notice right away: there’s no blinding white light. You won’t find that here. The heat is invisible. We spend a lot of time making sure the wattage is spread evenly across the whole surface. Why? Because nobody wants a “hot spot” that burns them while they’re trying to relax. Just a heads-up when you’re wiring these in: make sure your controller is a good match for the carbon element’s resistance. If you get that wrong, you’ll burn out the heater way too fast.
What’s under the hood?
The heart of the thing is the carbon element, wrapped in a heat-resistant sleeve or mounted to a special base. We use carbon because it’s just better at pushing energy outward than metal is. It means more of the heat actually hits the person in the sauna and less of it stays trapped in the heater’s own frame. Plus, these panels are thin. Really thin. You can slide them into tight wall cavities without needing a massive, heavy stone heater taking up all your legroom.
The trade-offs
Look, nothing is perfect. These heaters give you a steady, gentle warmth that feels amazing, but they aren’t “instant.” Unlike those shortwave lamps that snap on in a second, carbon takes a little while to ramp up. You’ve got to plan for a pre-heating phase. If you’re setting this up for a busy commercial spa where people are jumping in and out all day, you’ll want to pack in more panels. That way, the room stays toasty even when the door is constantly swinging open.
