Getting Your PET Blowing Right with Carbon Fiber IR Lamps

If you’ve ever dealt with PET bottle blowing, you know the headache of “hot spots.” You get those annoying variations in wall thickness that just make the final bottle look off. That’s exactly why we built these carbon fiber infrared lamps. Unlike those old-school metal coils, these filaments spread the heat evenly across the whole tube. It just makes the preheating stage a lot smoother. Picking your power We’ve got three options: 800W, 1000W, and 1500W. The choice really comes down to how fast your line is moving and how heavy your preforms are. If you need to crank up your cycles per minute, the 1500W is your best bet because it hits that target temperature fast. Just a heads-up: make sure your wiring and power supply can actually handle the extra juice. You don’t want to be chasing tripped breakers in the middle of a shift. The secret sauce We wrap the carbon fiber element in high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because quartz can take a massive thermal shock and not crack. But the real magic is in the wavelength. Carbon fiber pushes heat into the plastic, warming it from the inside out. Standard halogen usually just scorches the surface, which isn’t nearly as effective. The practical stuff The good news is that these are basically drop-in replacements. They fit into most oven arrays and get your machine up to temp way faster. Now, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Carbon fiber is more efficient, but it’s a bit more fragile than the cheap metal versions. If your shop floor is a bit chaotic—lots of vibration or rough handling during maintenance—do yourself a favor and use reinforced mounting clips. It’ll stop the tubes from snapping. And please, keep an eye on your airflow. If the ends of the lamps don’t get enough cooling, the seals will burn out way too soon. Keep them cool, and they’ll last.
